Conference summary:

From April 8 to 10, 2008, the Fifth China Private Book Industry Development Summit Forum was held. The theme of this forum is "Research, Analysis and Development". The guest speakers involved in four fields: government, industry, university and research. Government representative: President of issue company. Industrial representative: Jinxing International Education Group, Zhihong Education Group, Huawen Tainxia, Compilation & Translation Press etc. University representatives: Professor of Sociology at Peking University. Research representative: A researcher at the China Publishing Institute and the Central Institute of Educational Sciences. The main topics involved the issue of private copyright, the issue of cooperative publishing, the issue of strengthening the cooperation between state-owned and private enterprises, and the evaluation and judgment of the historical status and future development direction of private book industry.

The 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China put forward the great development and prosperity of culture, which provides a good background for the development of private book industry. It should be noted that from the first forum held in 2003 till now, China's private book industry and even the whole publishing industry have made great development. At the same time, we must have a clear understanding of the problems existing in the current publishing industry. The situation faced by the whole publishing industry is not optimistic, and some people are worried it might be our winter or darkest night. The construction of credit system and market regulation of publishing industry still need to be strengthened and improved. The state-owned book industry is facing profound transformation pressure. However, there are also problems in the development of private book industry, such as the backward management level of some private enterprises and obvious polarization trend. In such a situation, it is necessary to deeply explore the guidance, support, standardization and integration of private book industry, promote advantages and eliminate disadvantages, and make sure to operate in a legal manner.
