Conference summary:

From April 12 to 14, 2013, the 10th China Private Book Industry Development Summit Forum was successfully held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The theme of this forum is "Private book industry: new situation and new development". In 2012, China's private book industry experienced an extraordinary year. The development of online bookstore, the rise of digital publishing and the implementation of teaching assistant authorization have brought great impact on private book enterprises. How can the private book industry reduce the excessive dependence on teaching aids and effectively avoid the embarrassing situation caused by the authorization of teaching aids, how to promote the innovation of business channels and interest model, how to use the digital publishing trend to obtain greater development opportunities and space in its own teaching aids content advantage resources, how to improve the modern enterprise management system and explore the sustainable development path and so on, has become the biggest issues for the private book industry to solve.

In the past year, the private book industry has further expanded the product diversification, educational informatization and management modernization, built a digital publishing platform,  a cultural industrial park, tried to develop its own channels, introduced modern enterprise management system, and explored new growth points. In the fierce market competition, a group of private book enterprises with large scales, strong strengths and perfect organizational structures have withstood the test of the market, some of them have also set up joint-stock groups and established a new mode of capital operation.

In 2012, the General Administration of Press and Publication issued the implementation rules on supporting private capital to participate in publishing business activities, supporting private capital to invest in the distribution, advertising and other businesses of newspaper publishing units, encouraging private capital to participate in the "going out" publishing business, engaging in the export business of books, newspapers, periodicals, audio-visual products, electronic publications and other publishing products, and establishing overseas publishing business, such as building publishing houses, running newspapers and magazines, opening factories and stores etc. Supporting private funded cultural enterprises to participate in professional book publishing and business activities such as science and technology, finance and education by means of topic selection planning, content provision, project cooperation and divide into a department of state-owned publishing enterprises. These favorable policies have undoubtedly become an important driving force for the new development of private book industry. Under this new situation, the private book industry urgently needs to continue to broaden its thinking and seek new development on the basis of in-depth understanding of relevant policies. This is the theme of this forum.
