Negotiating Cooperation and Promoting Development was held in Beijing.
In order to further enhance the international influence of Chinese publishing and promote Chinese publishing ‘going out’, the ‘China Publishing “Going Out” Study and Research, Negotiation and Cooperation, Promoting Development Site Meeting’ was held in Beijing from 21 to 23 August 2024, under the guidance of China Publishing Promotion Association (CPPA), sponsored by the CPPA Cultural and Publishing Co-operation and International Affairs Working Committee, and hosted by Higher Education Publishing House, Foreign Languages Publishing House, China International Book Trade Group Corporation (CIBTG), Beijing Language and Culture University Press. The ‘China Publishing “Going Out” Study and Research, Negotiation and Cooperation, and Promotion of Development Site Meeting’ was held from 21 to 23 August 2024 in Beijing.
The conference was divided into ‘Higher Education Publishing House Conference’, ‘Foreign Languages Publishing House and China International Book Trade Group Corporation Conference’, ‘Beijing Language and Culture University Press Conference’ and ‘Overseas (Singapore) Chinese Publishing House Conference’. ‘Overseas (Singapore) Chinese Publishing and Chinese Book Sales Co-operation Video Conference + On-site Meeting’ and “Cross-Strait AI-Assisted Copyright Output Co-operation On-site Meeting”.

Speech by Long Jie, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Higher Education Publishing House
Higher Education Publishing House has made remarkable achievements in ‘going out’. Over the years, it has cooperated extensively with more than 200 organisations in the world, including many internationally renowned publishers, and its outward-looking products in 34 languages have been sold in 70 countries and regions around the world, and the number of copyright outputs has ranked the top among the national single publishing houses for many years, and has been awarded the ‘National Cultural Publishing House’ for many years. The number of copyright exports has been the highest among the national single publishing houses for many years, and the company has been awarded as ‘National Key Enterprise for Cultural Exports’ for consecutive years.
In the afternoon of 21 August, the guests visited the Social History Museum of Higher Education Press to learn more about the historical and cultural heritage of Higher Education Press in the field of copyright trade. Long Jie, deputy editor-in-chief of Higher Education Press, made a speech and welcomed the guests. She said that the Higher Education Press adheres to the tenet of rooting in education, promoting academics, flourishing culture and serving the society, promotes the in-depth integration of traditional publishing and digital publishing under the impetus of information technology, explores the new path of ‘going out’ through the work of edition and trade, enlarges the influence of international publishing co-operation and makes new contributions to the construction of China's international communication capacity. The company will also make new contributions to the building of China's international communication capacity.

Jia Qiuya, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Foreign Languages Publishing House, delivered a speech.
The Foreign Languages Bureau of China, Foreign Languages Press and China International Book Trade Group Corporation have long been in the leading position in China in terms of the volume of copyright trade output, and have mature overseas channels, including more than 5,000 overseas university libraries, more than 400 overseas bookstores, more than 100 Chinese-language bookstores, nearly 10,000 book, newspaper and periodical agents, more than 20,000 types of database products, distribution channels in 184 countries, and the construction of the ‘China Pavilion’ and the ‘China International Bookstore’. It also undertakes the construction of the ‘China Pavilion’ and library expansion projects in countries along the Belt and Road, supports overseas Chinese bookstores, digital periodicals going to the sea and other national key projects, owns overseas warehouses in the world's major countries, and maintains close contact with major international transporters.
On the morning of 22 August, the guests visited the History Museum of the Foreign Languages Bureau of China and the International Bookstore under the Guotu Group. They learnt about the development history of the Bureau of Foreign Languages and its achievements in foreign communication, and had a personal feeling and in-depth understanding of the development history and significant contributions of the International Bookstore. Jia Qiuya, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Foreign Languages Publishing House, delivered a speech to welcome and thank the guests. He said that Foreign Languages Press has always been committed to the original mission and history of ‘explaining China in foreign languages and communicating with the world through books’, and would like to make more achievements in China's publishing ‘going out’ together with all publishing colleagues.

Mr Wang Tong, Deputy General Manager of CIBT, expressed his thanks to the International Working Committee of the China Publishing Promotion Association for choosing Guotu as the venue for the ‘Going Global’ Conference and welcomed the guests to the conference! Wang Tong expressed his hope that through the research activities, we can promote and strengthen the cooperation and exchange between the mutual business of ‘going out’, and seek new directions, explore new ideas and try new methods together, so as to realise the double harvest of two kinds of benefits, and Guotu is looking forward to making more contributions to the cause of the country's foreign communication hand in hand with our publishing colleagues.

Speech by Hao Yun, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Beijing Language and Culture University Publishing House
On the morning of 23 August, the site meeting of Beijing Language and Culture University Press was held.
BLCU Press is the only professional publishing house for teaching and researching Chinese as a foreign language in China. BLCU Press has built an overseas marketing channel covering 33 countries and regions with 296 agents and distributors, and established an online e-commerce system covering the whole world, supporting online payment by credit cards (e.g., VISA card, MASTER card, etc.) in 56 countries around the world, which creates the highest record of overseas sales of online books in the Chinese publishing industry.
Over the years, BLCU Press has built an overseas marketing network with more than 300 agents and dealers covering 78 countries and regions in the world by setting up branches overseas, developing agents and dealers, and carrying out copyright export and co-publishing; it has cumulatively exported more than 2,000 kinds of copyrights, and has achieved a far-leading position in the total amount of copyright export and overseas sales of local edition books through free channels.

He expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the guests. Ms Lim Yoke Leng, President of the Singapore Chinese Publishers Association (SCPA), delivered a speech entitled ‘Chinese Publishing in Singapore’ in the form of a simultaneous remote video. She expressed SCPA's full support and welcome to the publishing co-operation between China and Singapore, and to work together to promote Chinese language publishing to Southeast Asia and the world.
Ms Ma Xiaomin, Secretary General of SCPA, also made a presentation on ‘Business Co-operation in Book Sales’ by simultaneous remote video. She expressed her expectation for more extensive cooperation and exchanges between Singapore publishing companies, bookstores and more domestic publishers in China in the future.

Mr Han Liang, General Manager of Beijing POPULAR CENTURY CULTURE CO., Ltd, representative of POPULAR Books Singapore, made a presentation on ‘Business Co-operation between POPULAR Books Singapore and China's Mainland in Publishing and Book Sales as well as Overseas Chinese Book Markets’ at the conference. At the same time, he expressed his hope that POPULAR Group can play the role of a media platform and cooperate with more publishers in Mainland China to promote the global development trend of Chinese culture, and that more excellent publishing groups and publishers in China will go global. POPULAR Books Beijing is willing to join hands with all fellow publishers to make more contributions to the revitalisation of China's publishing industry.

Mr Wu Guangwei, General Manager of Beijing Songbo Digital Technology Co., Ltd, took the title of ‘Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Realise Books Going Global through Dual Pipelines’, and talked about the core of print trade, AI technology, e-publishing, and other content areas. He said, firstly, the core of edition trade is content, and then consider channels under the premise of good content. Secondly, AI technology has brought great impact to the publishing industry, and artificial intelligence is promoting the overall improvement of the publishing industry and providing technical support for the prosperous development of the publishing industry. Thirdly, the new era promotes the development of new technology, which also indicates that China's publishing ‘going out’ has great potential.
Beijing Songbo Digital Technology Co., Ltd. operates e-book operation services, data processing and overseas publishing business; it is engaged in the integration of mainland copyrights in the Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English book publishing and global distribution in Singapore.

Special guest of the ‘Cross-Strait AI-assisted Copyright Output Co-operation Meeting’ ---- Huang Ronghua, Chief Editor of Taipei Songbo Publishing, delivered a speech entitled ‘Publishing Development in the Post-AI Era’, commenting on the following topics He made an introduction on ‘Paper Edition + Artificial Intelligence, Global Sales, Artificial Intelligence-assisted Copyright Output’, taking electronic publishing as the new sales model to promote Chinese publishing works to the whole world.
He said, according to the statistics, the mainland publishes nearly half a million kinds of books every year, but the proportion of them exported to the international market through copyright is not high, and many excellent works cannot be launched in the international market. Through cross-strait co-operation, there is one more publishing and sales pipeline for copyright holders and one more area of exposure for authors. Through the co-operation, more books will be pitched to the world, creating a multi-win situation.
Taiwan Songbo Publishing Co., Ltd. has developed the world's multi-language translation, proofreading, simple to traditional, book audio concentration, AI cover design and production, book AI film and publicity and promotion, for the world to e-books and POD printed paperbacks book distribution agent, and in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States and other places to carry out a wide range of co-operation contracts and sales.
